Mapleton House

Mapleton House is a remarkable example of precision building and environmentally responsive design, brought to life through the craftsmanship and commitment of AMbuild. Designed by Atelier Chen Hung, the home balances sustainability, durability, and architectural sophistication—crafted to evolve with both its landscape and its inhabitants.

Built with a strong focus on environmental performance, every material used in Mapleton House was selected with purpose. Locally sourced finishes not only reinforce a deep connection to place but also significantly reduce the project’s embodied energy. AMbuild worked closely with the design team to ensure the construction process aligned with these sustainable goals, integrating natural materials and passive systems with precision and care.

The home features a monolithic exterior clad in fully recyclable natural zinc, chosen for its durability and minimal maintenance, with a lifespan of up to 100 years.

Inside, AMbuild executed the finely detailed interior using Queensland silver ash and hoop pine plywood, creating warm, textural spaces that feel both grounded and expansive.Passive design principles were embedded into the build from the outset. A thermally efficient concrete floor slab provides natural warmth in cooler months, while operable perforated screens offer sun shading and aid in passive cooling during summer.

This careful balance of thermal mass, cross-ventilation, and solar orientation ensures comfortable, energy-efficient living all year round—without the need for mechanical heating or cooling.
