Ridgewood House

Ridgewood House is one of AMbuild’s most rewarding and technically challenging projects to date—a striking new home nestled in the Noosa Hinterland and designed by Robinson Architects. From the outset, the remote site presented significant logistical obstacles. With access limited to a narrow, steep track, the first task was to design and construct a driveway capable of supporting construction vehicles. Even then, access remained limited, requiring meticulous planning at every stage of the build.

Each material delivery and construction phase had to be carefully coordinated around the site’s access restrictions and the size of loads. AMbuild’s attention to detail and project management capabilities were key to ensuring smooth progress under complex conditions.

As you approach the home via a winding driveway through 100-year-old rainforest, Ridgewood House gradually reveals itself. The architecture is bold yet harmonious with its surroundings—defined by a powder-coated exposed steel frame, off-form concrete walls, and polished concrete floors. Floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the home to natural light and panoramic views, creating a strong yet serene connection to the landscape.

Externally, the use of galvanised corrugated iron for cladding and roofing speaks to the rural setting while offering durability and low maintenance. Internally, high-end finishes elevate every space: mosaic-tiled bathrooms, Astra Walker brushed tapware, and fully custom cabinetry throughout. The kitchen features black timber joinery and a dramatic natural Black Velvet stone island bench as its centrepiece.

The living areas open seamlessly onto a cantilevered hardwood deck, leading to an in-situ round concrete pool—an architectural feature that perfectly integrates with the rainforest surrounds and elevates the indoor-outdoor experience.
